QSL Card Illustrations

These are two QSL cards* that I designed for my dad, Serge, who is a HAM radio nerd. They feature imagery and details that reflect my dad's interests as well as the location of his tower. I chose typography and an illustration style inspired by halftone and offset printing processes—giving a vintage look and feel.

* Amateur radio operators exchange "QSL cards" (sometimes referred to as "calling cards") to confirm radio contact between their two stations. During the early days of radio (remember radio?), the ability for a HAM radio operator to receive distant signals was a source of pride for many consumers and hobbyists. To confirm contact, radio stations began sending post cards which were collected by hobbyists. Eventually, HAM radio operators started creating their own QSL cards as an expression of their individuality—often featuring artwork connected to their station location.
